Ultimate tuna fishing experience

Any time from late February on, the Southern Bluefin tuna will arrive and can be caught as late as August. The tuna range in size from 8kg through to a whopping 130+kg’s. We have the equipment to handle them all. Along with the tuna come the Albacore and the occasional dolphin fish. Both of our vessels can get you to the action and are both comfortable fishing platforms.

We also offer fishing for a variety of different species including (but not limited to):

Yellowtail Kingfish, which usually turn up when the weather heats up anytime from early December through to around March.

Snapper, we can catch snapper here in Portland year round it’s just the depth of water that changes. In the summer we catch them in the shallow water in the bay along with many other species like the occasional school, gummy and 7 gilled sharks. It’s a good combination to go for both snapper and kingies in the summer on a nice balmy evening.

• Includes either breakfast or dinner depending on when your charter runs, it is usually always best to fish early morning or late evening so we run our charters to suit the fishes timetable, not ours!

Seasonal Full day fishing charters (8 hours approx)

Thresher, Mako & Blue Sharks, we can target sharks anytime however generally the Threshers are around in the shallow water during the summer and the Mako’s and blues are better from December through to August. Generally you need to allow for a full day fishing to target these species.

Deep water reef fishing can turn up a huge variety of fish and sharks here in Portland. The best time to fish the deep water is usually from April through to October when you can catch –

• Snapper
• Gummy & School shark
• Banded Morwong
• Queen Blue Morwong
• Tassie Trumpeter (yes if you know where to go and the conditions are right)!
• Coral perch
• Butterfly gurnard
• Flathead (decent sized not bay rats)!
• And a variety of undesirables.

ECO Tours

Our boats are available for private charter for scenic tours, whale watching, pelagic bird watching & private outings.

Portland is abundant with marine wildlife and we quite often get the chance to see some amazing sights while at sea. Times of year may vary however there is always some beautiful creature hiding or just lazing about.

We are pleased to announce this new relatively short trip will run for up to two trips every second day during the Summer school holidays, leaving and returning at both 2pm-3.30pm and a second trip if demand requires from 4pm-5.30pm. This will include a trip around the Portland harbour and then along the coast out to Lawrence rock to view the Gannet colony, seals and maybe a Penguin or two. Weather permitting we will also venture a little further out to see if we can find a Blue whale.

Pelagic Bird watching tours (approx 9-10hrs)

We offer a fully catered trip out to the continental shelf to berley up the many species of pelagic bird life; all you need to bring are your binoculars, camera and your id book. We are still learning much about the many species so you will need a team leader for your identifications; however we have run many of these trips and have two comfortable vessels with plenty of room for everyone to get a good view.
